Best Sugar Cookies :)

We made these on Valentine's Day and it was a huge success! The students loved the decorating process. Enjoy!










Best Sugar Cookies


1 ¼ cup flour

¼ tsp cream of tartar

¼ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

¼ C shortening

¼ C butter

¼ C sugar

¼ C powdered sugar

½ egg

¾ tsp vanilla

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

2. Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Set aside

3. Cream shortening, butter and sugars.

4. Stir in egg and vanilla

5. Add sifted ingredients and mix well.

6. Roll about ½ “on greased surface and cut out cookies

7. Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes.

Yield: 1 ½ dozen cookies

**Double recipe for best results**

Cinnamon Rolls!




Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients:

2 tsp yeast

1/3 C. Shortening

½ C. Warm Water (105-115 Degrees) (Water Will Feel “Neutral” To Touch)

1 tsp. Salt

1 Egg, Slightly Beaten

½ C. Lukewarm Milk (Microwave 20 Sec.)

3 ½ - 4 C. Flour, Divided (start with 2 cups in step 2, add up to 2 more cups if needed)

1/3 C. Sugar

Sprinkled Topping:

2 Tbsp. Butter Melted

¼ C. Sugar

1 T. Cinnamon

Icing:

1 ½ Cups Powdered Sugar

½ tsp. Vanilla

1 T. Melted Butter

2 T. Milk

Combine Until Drizzling Consistency. More Milk May Be Added To Get The Right Consistency.

DAY 1:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl. Let sit for a few minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg. Add 2 cups of flour. Mix until smooth.
  3. Mix in enough remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle. (This may be up to two or more cups of flour. It will pull away from sides of bowl when ready.)
  4. Turn dough onto slightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (5-8 minutes).
  1. Put dough in a Ziploc bag and put in the refrigerator.

DAY 2:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  2. Roll dough into a rectangle (to fit pan)
  3. Brush dough with melted butter.
  4. Combine sugar and cinnamon to sprinkle over dough.
  5. Roll Up Starting With Long Side. Seal Seams.
  6. Slice Into 1 ½ Inch Rolls.
  7. Place rolls flat side down in a greased 9”X13” pan.
  8. Put in 200 degree oven for 10 minutes, then set oven temperature to 350 degrees and set timer for 13 minutes.
  9. When they are done and still warm, drizzle with glaze.
